Why is composing a song beneficial to primary students?

Composing a song is the perfect way to get your class started being creative and independent. Exploring songwriting is a great way to grab classes attention by getting them to write songs based on their own experiences in life. This lesson will help with their general musicianship skills as well as highlighting how both rhythm and melody work together to create music.

In the Model Music Curriculum it states:

“The creative process, with its wide horizons of possibility, gives pupils an opportunity to
contribute to musical culture in unique and valuable ways.”
